Tulsi Gabbard Resigns as Director of National Intelligence to Stand by Husband Battling Rare Bone Cancer

Washington (HRNW): Tulsi Gabbard has resigned as Director of National Intelligence, effective June 30, 2026, citing her husband Abraham Williams’ diagnosis with an extremely rare form of bone cancer.

In her resignation letter delivered personally to President Trump at the Oval Office, Gabbard wrote that she must step away from public service to stand by her husband’s side through this difficult battle, adding that Abraham has been her rock throughout their eleven years of marriage.

President Trump praised Gabbard on Truth Social, saying she did an incredible job and announced that Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence Aaron Lukas will serve as acting director.

Gabbard becomes the fourth Cabinet member to exit the Trump administration this term, following the firing of former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, ex-Attorney General Pam Bondi, and the resignation of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer.
