KARACHI: (HRNW) A massive search and rescue operation is underway near the Jokhiyo area after a 12-year-old girl, identified as Sanam, fell into a high-pressure water supply line on Tuesday evening. According to Rescue 1122, the incident occurred around 7:00 PM when the young girl reportedly slipped while attempting to fetch water.
Rescue Operation Details:
-
Nature of the Water Line: Officials clarified that the channel is not a sewage drain but a primary supply line carrying clean water from Keenjhar Lake to Karachi.
-
Operational Challenges: Rescuers are facing extreme difficulties due to the water’s depth, which ranges between 25 to 30 feet, and an exceptionally high flow rate.
-
Current Status: A specialized Water Rescue and Scuba team initiated a search immediately after the report, but the operation was paused late at night due to zero visibility. The search resumed at first light today (Wednesday, March 25, 2026).
Strategic Search Efforts:
The rescue teams are currently focusing their efforts downstream toward the filtration plant, following the direction of the current. Divers and rescue personnel are using containers and specialized equipment to probe for any underwater obstructions or signs of the body.
A spokesperson for Rescue 1122 expressed deep concern that the intense pressure may have carried the girl several kilometers away from the initial fall site. Despite the challenging conditions, the search continues in hopes of a recovery.
