Islamabad (HRNW)- President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Islam is a religion of peace, compassion, and justice, and linking it with extremism reflects ignorance. In his message on the occasion of the International Day for the Prevention of Islamophobia, the President emphasized the need to eliminate hatred and prejudice against Muslims around the world.
He urged the international community to strengthen legal protection against hate crimes and stressed that freedom of expression should not be misused to spread hatred or discrimination.
President Zardari highlighted the importance of promoting respect for religious diversity and interfaith harmony, noting that the Christchurch tragedy was an incident that shook the conscience of humanity. He said that Pakistan has consistently raised its voice against Islamophobia on international forums.
The President also acknowledged the contributions of Pakistanis living abroad, stating that they play a significant role in the development of societies around the world. However, he warned that prejudice against Muslims can affect the safety and well-being of Pakistanis overseas.
He further stated that minorities in Pakistan are being provided equal rights and opportunities. According to him, the National Commission for Minorities Rights Act 2025 has been enacted, and an independent National Commission is being established to protect minority rights.
President Zardari concluded by urging the global community to work collectively to eliminate prejudice, encourage dialogue, and ensure respect for religious beliefs and equal legal protection for all.
