Gaza (HRNW) — An Israeli minister has reportedly called for 30 to 40 Palestinians to be killed every night in Gaza, in a provocative statement that has raised serious concerns over the protection of civilians and respect for international humanitarian law.
According to reports, the Israeli minister also backed an escalation of military operations in Gaza and expressed support for the establishment of Israeli settlements in the territory.
The reported remarks have intensified concerns over the treatment and protection of Palestinian civilians amid the ongoing war. Large numbers of Palestinians, including women and children, have been killed during military operations, while millions have been displaced and left facing severe shortages of food, clean water, medicine and adequate shelter.
From a human rights perspective, the protection of civilians during armed conflict is a fundamental obligation under international humanitarian law. Any deliberate targeting of civilians or collective punishment may constitute a serious violation of international law and requires appropriate investigation and accountability.
Gaza’s Humanitarian Crisis Deepens
Continued military operations, mass displacement and shortages of essential supplies have further aggravated the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Displaced Palestinian families are living in makeshift shelters under extremely difficult conditions, with women and children particularly vulnerable.
The international community is also facing growing criticism over what many view as inadequate action to protect Palestinian civilians and address the humanitarian crisis.
From a human rights perspective, the urgent priorities remain the protection of civilians, unrestricted humanitarian assistance, accountability for alleged violations and a sustainable ceasefire.
As the crisis continues, the suffering of Palestinian civilians has prompted growing public concern that the world is failing to respond adequately to the loss of innocent lives.
