Court Halts Demolition of Ibrahim Goth in North Karachi

Karachi (HRNW) – The Sindh High Court has intervened to stop the demolition of Ibrahim Goth in North Karachi, following a petition filed by the local residents. During the hearing, the court issued formal notices to the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and other relevant departments, seeking their responses by the next scheduled date.

The residents contend that Ibrahim Goth is a 70-year-old settlement where many families have resided for decades. Their legal counsel, Noreen, informed the court that the KDA had recently issued eviction notices, sparking fear among the inhabitants. She highlighted that several other petitions regarding the legal status of the settlement are already pending in court and that various judicial orders have been passed on this matter previously.

Taking immediate notice, the court directed KDA officials to refrain from taking any coercive action against the residents for the time being. The court has demanded a detailed report from the authorities to determine the legal standing of the area before proceeding further.
