Court Issues Notices in Case of Bear Rano’s Relocation from Karachi Zoo

Karachi, Pakistan (HRNW)- In the matter of the relocation of female bear Rano to a natural habitat from Karachi Zoo, the court has issued notices to relevant authorities regarding proposed amendments to the petition and has approved making the Wildlife Department a party to the case. The hearing has been adjourned until February 25.

Separate amendment requests were filed by the counsel for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the petitioner, Darakhwaast. The KMC lawyer stated that the original petition filed before the regular bench has already been implemented, as Rano has been transferred to Islamabad, making that petition ineffective.

Petitioner’s lawyer Jibran Nasir emphasized that the welfare of other zoo animals is also important, urging the court to allow amendments to the petition and hear additional arguments from Darakhwaast. He requested the formation of a committee to assess the well-being and protection of other animals at the zoo.

It is noted that after the 27th amendment, the petition was transferred from the regular bench to the constitutional bench for further proceedings.
