Jamaat-e-Islami Sit-Ins Against Petroleum Levy Enter Eighth Day in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar

Lahore (HRNW)- Jamaat-e-Islami’s sit-ins against the petroleum levy have entered their eighth day in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar. Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, JI Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said the protests would continue until the petroleum levy is abolished.

He announced a major rally in Lahore and said that after 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, the party plans to launch a shutter-down strike and a long march toward Islamabad. Protest camps will also be established in other cities, while Milad gatherings and Seerat conferences will be held at the sit-ins.

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman criticized the government over petroleum and sugar prices, alleging that citizens, students, youth and farmers are bearing the burden of inflation. He maintained that Jamaat-e-Islami’s protests are peaceful and rejected claims that the sit-ins are responsible for rising petroleum prices.

The JI emir said the protests would continue until the petroleum levy is withdrawn, while also calling for the government to fully implement the court order concerning Imran Khan’s medical examination.
