Islamabad (HRNW)- Pakistan’s trade deficit increased by 26 percent in the first month of fiscal year 2026-27 as domestic imports rose by 19 percent, according to the Federal Bureau of Statistics.
Imports of machinery, vehicles, food items, textiles, agricultural equipment, chemicals and metals recorded significant increases during July. Food imports alone reached $805.4 million, while machinery imports rose 41 percent to $1.31 billion. Transport equipment imports increased 40 percent to $420 million, while textile imports climbed 15 percent to $680 million.
Imports of agricultural equipment and chemicals increased by 23 percent, exceeding $1 billion, while imports of precious metals, including gold, steel and iron, also rose 23 percent, with the precious metals import bill exceeding $730 million.
The rise in imports across major sectors resulted in a 26 percent increase in Pakistan’s trade deficit during July.
