ISLAMABAD/TEHRAN (HRNW) — According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will visit Tehran on Monday, where he is expected to hold important meetings with senior Iranian officials.
According to the spokesperson, the purpose of the visit is to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Iran and advance Pakistan’s efforts for peace and security in the region. The meetings are also expected to cover matters of mutual interest and the regional situation.
Bilateral Cooperation and Regional Situation
Pakistan and Iran maintain cooperation in several areas, including trade, border security, economic relations and regional affairs. During Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit, discussions are expected to focus on matters of mutual interest and opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The regional security situation, peace and stability, and mechanisms for enhancing bilateral engagement are also expected to feature in the discussions.
Human Rights and Regional Peace
Alongside diplomatic and security efforts, human rights and civilian protection remain important aspects of regional peace and stability. Any efforts aimed at strengthening regional security should also prioritize the protection of civilians, human dignity and fundamental rights.
Improved diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and Iran could provide opportunities for greater cooperation on issues affecting communities living in border areas, including lawful movement, trade, employment and humanitarian concerns.
From a human rights perspective, it is important that regional dialogue also gives due consideration to civilian protection, access to humanitarian assistance and respect for fundamental rights.
