Ottawa (HRNW): Canada has announced that it will continue prioritizing highly skilled professionals for permanent residency through its Express Entry immigration system as part of its strategy to address labour shortages and strengthen key sectors of the economy.
According to the Canadian government’s updated immigration policy, the category-based selection system is designed to attract highly educated and skilled individuals whose qualifications align with Canada’s workforce and economic needs.
The initiative aims to fill critical labour shortages across the country while providing eligible candidates with a faster and more direct pathway to Canadian permanent residence.
Under the priority categories, Canada is focusing on professionals in several high-demand fields, including:
- Medical doctors, nurses, researchers, and social services professionals.
- Specialists in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
- Teachers and other education professionals.
- Skilled trades workers in the construction and infrastructure sectors.
- Transportation and logistics professionals to strengthen supply chains.
- Senior managers with relevant Canadian work experience.
The Canadian government also stated that applicants with strong French-language proficiency, particularly those willing to settle outside the Province of Quebec, will continue to receive priority consideration to support the growth of French-speaking communities across Canada.
Immigration experts note that candidates can significantly improve their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) by strengthening their Express Entry profiles and qualifying under one of the designated priority categories.
