KARACHI: (HRNW) The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has declared that the time has come to transform the country’s “feudal democracy” into a participatory and inclusive system that grants the public the right to shape their own destiny. Highlighting that an effective and empowered local government system is now indispensable for national survival, the party reiterated its proposed formula to achieve administrative self-sufficiency for Pakistan’s 144 districts and cities. MQM-P leaders emphasized that the fate of the nation should not be decided solely by 1,200 members of the national and provincial assemblies; instead, true change can only be realized by devolving power to grassroots levels and empowering mayors and town chairmen. Regarding urban development, the party insisted on the full implementation of the Karachi Strategic Development Plan (KSDP), noting that a final hearing on the matter is scheduled to take place at the Sindh High Court tomorrow, Thursday, March 26, 2026. This legal push follows years of delays in approving the Sindh Master Plan Authority law, which MQM-P argues is vital for the macro-level planning and structured growth of the economic hub.
The struggle for local government empowerment and the legal enforcement of urban master plans are core pillars of our mission to report on democratic accountability.
