Kuwait Customs Foils Major Cigarette Smuggling Attempt, Seizes 481 Cartons

Kuwait City (HRNW): Customs authorities in Kuwait have foiled a major cigarette smuggling attempt after discovering 481 cartons of cigarettes concealed inside a specially modified vehicle at Nuwaiseeb Port.

According to customs officials, officers became suspicious of a vehicle preparing to leave the port and stopped it for a routine inspection. During the search, they uncovered large quantities of cigarettes expertly hidden in multiple concealed compartments throughout the vehicle.

Authorities said the contraband was concealed inside the vehicle’s interior panels, doors, rear seats, floor, roof, air-conditioning ducts, and even the spare tire compartment, indicating that the vehicle had been specially modified for the purpose of smuggling.

Customs officials described the concealment method as part of a well-organized smuggling operation designed to evade law enforcement and transport the illegal shipment across the border undetected.

Following the seizure, legal proceedings were initiated. Officials confirmed that a confiscation report has been prepared and the case has been referred to the Criminal Investigations Department for further inquiry to identify all individuals involved in the alleged smuggling network and take appropriate legal action.
