Japan: Powerful 7.2-Magnitude Earthquake Injures Four, Tremors Felt Across Multiple Regions

Iwate (HRNW)- A powerful 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Japan on Thursday morning, injuring at least four people and causing strong tremors across several regions of the country.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the earthquake occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. local time. The epicenter was located in the sea off the eastern coast of Iwate Prefecture, at a depth of around 40 kilometers. The quake was initially measured at 6.9 magnitude before being revised to 7.2.

The strongest shaking was reported in Hashikami Town and Hachinohe City in Aomori Prefecture. Tremors were also felt in Hokkaido, Akita, Fukushima, Miyagi, Yamagata, and the capital Tokyo.

Authorities confirmed that no tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake. However, residents in affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant due to the possibility of aftershocks and additional seismic activity.

Officials further stated that no abnormalities have been detected at nuclear facilities in Aomori, Miyagi, or at the Fukushima Daiichi and Daini nuclear power plants. Emergency response teams and relevant agencies remain on high alert and continue to monitor the situation closely.
