Russia and Ukraine Resume Attacks After Ceasefire Ends, Casualties Reported in Multiple Regions

KYIV / MOSCOW (HRNW) – Russia and Ukraine have resumed military operations after the end of a three-day ceasefire, with renewed drone and air strikes reported in several areas and fresh casualties confirmed in parts of Ukraine.

According to foreign news agencies, Russian drone attacks triggered air raid sirens across multiple regions, including the capital Kyiv. In the eastern Dnipropetrovsk region, one person was killed and several others were injured in the latest strikes.

Ukrainian military administration head Timur Tkachenko said on Telegram that Russian drones entered Kyiv’s airspace, prompting authorities to instruct residents to take shelter. He added that Ukraine’s air defense systems managed to intercept and destroy several drones.

On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed its air defense units shot down 27 Ukrainian drones after the ceasefire ended, saying the attacks targeted regions including Belgorod, Voronezh, and Rostov.

The ceasefire was announced last week by US President Donald Trump, who expressed hope that the three-day pause could pave the way toward ending the ongoing four-year conflict.

However, both sides continued to accuse each other of violations during the truce, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stating that fighting persisted along the front lines and no complete ceasefire was observed.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia remains open to negotiations to end the war, but stressed that it is too early to outline any final agreement.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the conflict is moving toward its final phase, while Russian officials maintain that military operations will continue until Ukraine agrees to Moscow’s conditions, including withdrawal from parts of the Donbas region still under Ukrainian control. Ukraine has firmly rejected these demands.
