Italy Denies US Military Aircraft Access to Sicilian Base Over Authorization Issue

Rome (HRNW) – Italy has banned US military aircraft from using the Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily for operations linked to the Middle East. Reports indicate that US bombers were expected to land at the base before heading to the conflict zone, but Italian authorities refused due to lack of proper authorization.

Under agreements governing US military bases in Italy, Rome must be formally consulted before such operations, a step reportedly skipped by the US. The Italian Ministry of Defence has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
