Washington (HRNW)- A proposal has been introduced in the U.S. Congress seeking to end the annual $3.3 billion in military assistance provided by the United States to Israel.
According to reports, Congressman Greg Casar, a Democrat from Texas, announced that he would support an amendment introduced by Republican Congressman Thomas Massie, which calls for ending annual military aid to Israel.
In a statement, Casar argued that the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza and recent regional developments warranted a reassessment of U.S. military assistance, saying that American taxpayers should not continue financing additional weapons.
The proposed amendment seeks not only to eliminate the $3.3 billion in annual military aid but also to remove funding allocated to Israel through the U.S. State Department’s budget.
Meanwhile, Thomas Massie recently lost his Republican primary election to a candidate backed by President Donald Trump.
According to reports, the race was described as one of the most expensive primary elections in U.S. House of Representatives history, with more than $32 million reportedly spent against Massie. Much of the funding was said to have come from pro-Israel organizations and groups supporting President Trump.
The amendment is expected to be brought before Congress for a vote later this week, where it is likely to draw significant attention amid ongoing debate over U.S. policy toward Israel.
