Muscat (HRNW)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has confirmed that an agreement regarding the release of $12 billion in Iran’s frozen assets has been finalized following recent Iran-US talks held in Switzerland.
According to Iranian officials, Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi arrived in Oman to discuss matters related to the Strait of Hormuz and regional security developments.
In his statement, Qalibaf said that both sides had agreed to establish a communication mechanism for maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz to help prevent misunderstandings, conflicts, and tensions in the strategically important waterway.
He further stated that understandings had also been reached regarding support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon, based on discussions held during the Switzerland talks.
Meanwhile, the US Treasury Department has reportedly issued a 60-day temporary general license allowing the production, delivery, and sale of Iranian oil. The temporary exemption is expected to facilitate limited oil exports, while future arrangements will depend on the implementation of commitments made during the negotiations and progress in diplomatic talks.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that restrictions related to certain sanctioned jurisdictions remain in effect and that future decisions will be linked to developments in the negotiation process.
Analysts believe the reported agreements could mark an important step in easing tensions between Washington and Tehran, while also affecting regional stability and global energy markets.
