Constitutional Court Warns Against Conversion of Residential Plots to Commercial in Karachi

Karachi (HRNW) – The Constitutional Court has issued a stern warning regarding the negative environmental and infrastructural impact of converting residential plots into commercial ones across the city.

During the court proceedings, Justice Hassan Rizvi observed that in established and major cities, converting residential property for commercial use is generally avoided as it degrades the urban infrastructure and creates severe difficulties for residents. Justice Rizvi further noted that such conversions lead to the destruction of the urban environment, increased traffic congestion, and a strain on basic utilities.

The court has directed the relevant authorities to review all decisions regarding commercial conversions in residential areas to ensure proper urban planning and public welfare. Legal experts suggest that the Constitutional Court’s firm stance indicates a shift toward prioritizing Karachi’s residential master plan to protect the quality of life for its citizens.
