Washington (HRNW)- US President Donald Trump has ordered an investigation into the leak of sensitive information regarding US military weapons and ammunition stockpiles to the media during the ongoing conflict with Iran.
According to The Wall Street Journal, citing US administration officials, President Trump directed a new investigation into the unauthorized disclosure of information related to the Pentagon’s military stockpiles.
The report said the US administration is concerned about recent media reports claiming that several key US weapons and ammunition reserves have declined significantly during military operations against Iran.
According to The Wall Street Journal, multiple US media reports published in recent weeks have suggested that the US military’s war reserves have decreased compared to previous levels, raising questions about the availability of missiles, air defense systems, and other critical military equipment.
Despite these reports, the US administration has consistently maintained that the United States retains sufficient military capabilities and resources to continue operations against Iran.
According to the report, President Trump believes that public disclosure of information regarding reduced military stockpiles could negatively affect negotiations with Iran and weaken Washington’s strategic position.
The newspaper further reported that President Trump expressed frustration over the media reports during private meetings with cabinet members and senior advisers, arguing that such information could encourage Iran by creating the impression that the United States is not prepared for a prolonged conflict.
According to the report, President Trump also believes that the publication of sensitive military information could undermine the US negotiating position at a time when Washington is pressuring Tehran to accept its terms regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
