Washington (HRNW)- US President Donald Trump has expressed hope that the ongoing tension with Iran will end soon and that the Strait of Hormuz will be fully reopened for international maritime traffic.
Speaking to reporters, President Trump said that talks are continuing with Iran at various levels and that he is confident the current conflict will not continue for a long period.
He said he believes Iran is not in a position to sustain the conflict for much longer, adding that positive developments could emerge in the near future. Trump claimed that once the conflict ends, the Strait of Hormuz will reopen, allowing global energy supplies and commercial shipping to return to normal.
In a separate statement posted on his social media platform Truth Social, President Trump praised US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, saying he was highly satisfied with his performance.
Defending the ongoing US operations against Iran, Trump said the military actions are intended to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He claimed that US operations have significantly weakened Iran’s capabilities and that the situation is moving in Washington’s favor.
Meanwhile, Iran is continuing discussions with Oman regarding the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. According to various reports, both sides are considering a possible administrative arrangement acceptable to all parties.
However, Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that there are currently no direct negotiations with the United States aimed at permanently ending the conflict, maintaining that the talks with Oman are limited to issues related to the management and navigation of the Strait of Hormuz.
Political observers say that if diplomatic efforts in the region succeed, they could have a positive impact on the global oil market, international maritime trade, and overall security in the Middle East.
