Washington (HRNW)- US intelligence agencies have warned that Russia could attempt to attack one of the NATO member states within the next few years, according to media reports.
According to The Wall Street Journal, US intelligence assessments are examining various possible scenarios of a future Russian offensive, ranging from cyberattacks to limited ground military operations against a NATO member.
The report said the intelligence assessments come at a time when US officials are also expressing concern over shortages of certain key weapons that would be required in any potential future conflict involving Russia or China.
According to the report, the US military’s weapons stockpiles have declined significantly following continued military assistance to Ukraine and recent military operations involving Iran.
Officials cited in the report said the affected weapons include long-range precision-guided missiles, tactical missile systems used by ground forces, and Stinger short-range surface-to-air missiles.
The report noted that the assessments reflect growing concerns within the US defense establishment regarding future military preparedness and the evolving security environment in Europe.
