Washington (HRNW)- Robert Pape, a professor at the University of Chicago and a renowned American political analyst, has warned that US President Donald Trump is caught in a dangerous military situation due to the ongoing conflict with Iran, where ending the war has become increasingly difficult while further escalation could carry severe consequences.
In an interview with Arab media, Professor Robert Pape said President Trump may have achieved temporary military gains through US air and naval strikes on Iran, but despite direct intervention in the conflict, he has failed to accomplish his major strategic objectives.
According to Robert Pape, Iran has emerged stronger rather than weaker as a result of the conflict, making the current situation a complex military and political challenge for the US administration.
The American analyst said President Trump now essentially has two options: either seek to end the conflict by acknowledging Iran’s growing regional influence or expand the military campaign further.
Professor Pape stated that there is no easy third option, warning that any decision by the United States to intensify military operations could significantly widen the conflict.
He also expressed concern that after the limited effectiveness of air and naval power, President Trump could consider ground military operations in pursuit of a decisive or symbolic victory before the upcoming midterm elections.
According to Robert Pape, such a move could push the conflict with Iran into a far more dangerous phase with unpredictable regional consequences.
The analysis comes as President Donald Trump continues to claim that the conflict with Iran could end soon and that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened to international shipping.
