Karachi (HRNW): The Sindh Government has announced that its film “Mera Lyari” has entered the race for Academy Awards (Oscars) consideration, describing the development as a significant achievement for both Sindh and Pakistan.
The announcement was made during a meeting of the Film Board of the Sindh Information Department, chaired by Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting reviewed the promotion of the provincial film industry, ongoing film projects, future strategies, and progress in collaborations with national and international OTT (Over-the-Top) streaming platforms.
The meeting was attended by Information Secretary Kashif Gulzar Shaikh, Director General Information Moazzam Pirzada, Director Films Hizbullah Memon, board members Waqas Rizvi, Saleem Khan, Ehtesham Ansari, Rab Nawaz, and other relevant officials.
Officials informed the meeting that the first phase of the Information Department’s film projects has been successfully completed, while discussions are continuing with various national and international OTT platforms and industry stakeholders regarding the distribution, exhibition, and partnership of these productions.
Addressing the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that Mera Lyari‘s inclusion in the Oscar submission race is a matter of pride for Pakistan, particularly Sindh. He noted that if the film secures an official Academy Award nomination, it would mark a historic milestone by showcasing Sindh’s art, culture, and creative talent on the global stage.
The senior minister reiterated that the Sindh Government remains committed to promoting the film industry, culture, and creative sectors, emphasizing that cinema not only projects a positive cultural identity but also generates employment, attracts investment, and supports the growth of creative industries.
He added that the government’s objective is to establish Sindh as a modern, internationally competitive filmmaking hub, creating greater opportunities for local filmmakers and creative professionals to reach national and global audiences.
