Karachi (HRNW): Sindh Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah held a meeting with a World Bank Mission delegation to discuss development and administrative initiatives in the province.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Local Government Wasim Shamshad, Project Director KLIC, Director UIPT, and other senior officials.
The minister stated that a modern system for the collection of immovable property tax will soon be introduced in the province.
He said the World Bank Mission has shown strong interest in the project.
Nasir Hussain Shah assured full cooperation from the Government of Sindh.
He added that, in line with Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision and the Chief Minister’s directives, providing services to citizens at their doorstep remains a top priority.
The minister further stated that amendments to local government laws are being prepared in consultation with all stakeholders.
He noted that strengthening elected representatives at the union council level is a key part of the reform process.
According to him, after the proposed changes, town chairmen and deputy mayors will also be granted greater powers.
He added that towns showing better performance in property tax collection will receive additional development funds.
Nasir Hussain Shah said the modern property tax system is already operational in Karachi, and with World Bank support, its scope will be expanded across the entire province.
