Beirut, Lebanon (HRNW) — Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has officially announced that Israel will establish a “security buffer zone” across significant portions of Southern Lebanon. According to the announcement, the strategic move is intended to neutralize the threat of continued attacks from Hezbollah. Katz further detailed that the Israeli military has already destroyed several critical bridges near the Litani River, stating that the return of displaced Lebanese civilians to these areas remains strictly conditional upon security benchmarks.
The human cost of the escalating hostilities has reached a critical point, with over 1,000 deaths reported and hundreds of thousands of civilians displaced, deepening a severe humanitarian crisis. In response, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has condemned the establishment of the buffer zone, labeling it a form of “collective punishment” against the Lebanese people, while Hezbollah has vowed to continue its resistance. Geopolitical experts warn that this development significantly increases the risk of a full-scale regional war, as diplomatic channels struggle to contain the violence.
