Tel Aviv (HRNW)- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Israel has not approved the proposed US-backed plan for Gaza, despite assurances from Washington that any Israeli military withdrawal would only take place after Hamas is completely disarmed.
In a video statement released on his social media accounts, Netanyahu said that the team of US President Donald Trump believes it can secure the disarmament of Hamas and end military activity in Gaza.
“We are reviewing this proposal,” Netanyahu said. “The US team sent us a draft, but we did not agree to it because it was not our draft. We have sent back our own suggestions and comments.”
The Israeli prime minister reiterated that Israel’s position remains unchanged, insisting that Hamas must be fully disarmed before any political process or reconstruction efforts in Gaza can begin.
Netanyahu’s remarks come as the United States continues diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, and a framework for the territory’s future governance.
According to political observers, the Israeli prime minister’s statement indicates that differences remain between Israel and the United States over key aspects of the proposed plan for Gaza.
There has been no immediate official response from the US government to Netanyahu’s latest remarks. However, diplomatic sources say consultations between the two allies are continuing.
Analysts believe that unless agreement is reached on issues including the future governance of Gaza, a ceasefire, and the disarmament of Hamas, ongoing diplomatic efforts to achieve peace in the region could face further challenges.
