Karachi, Pakistan (HRNW) — Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced a series of sweeping austerity measures aimed at conserving energy and supporting federal efforts to stabilize the national economy. Highlighting the provincial government’s commitment to the federation, Memon stated that Sindh will fully endorse and implement all decisions made by the federal government regarding fuel conservation, including potential lockdowns. In a significant symbolic and financial gesture, the Sindh Cabinet has unanimously decided to forego their salaries for the next three months to alleviate the burden on the national exchequer during these challenging times.
As part of the operational strategy to reduce fuel consumption, the provincial government has introduced a “Work from Home” policy for Fridays and has grounded 40% of the government-owned vehicle fleet. Minister Memon emphasized that these steps are essential to protect fuel reserves and prevent a surge in inflation, noting that public transport is also being prioritized to provide maximum relief to citizens. He appealed to the public to cooperate with these measures and work from home where possible, reiterating that the protection of energy resources is a collective responsibility. The provincial government remains ready to provide further cooperation to the federal authorities until the economic situation is fully brought under control.
