Sindh High Court Issues Stern Remarks on BRT Red Line: Project Cost Surges from 16 Billion to 31 Billion Rupees

KARACHI (HRNW): The Sindh High Court held a hearing regarding the sealing of the BRT Red Line Lot 2 contractor’s office, during which the court expressed severe indignation over project delays and the resulting hardships faced by citizens.

Key points and judicial remarks from the hearing include:

  • Dismay Over City Conditions: Justice Nisar Bhambrho remarked that the entire road has been dug up. He further noted that an alternative route should have been established before starting the work.

  • Standards of Foreign Companies: Justice Saleem Jaser observed that the standards maintained by foreign companies in their own countries differ significantly from the standards they adopt here in Pakistan.

  • Project Cost Escalation: The Advocate General of Sindh informed the court that the cost of the project has nearly doubled, rising from 16 billion rupees to 31 billion rupees due to delays.

  • Adjournment: The court has adjourned the hearing of the case until May 5.
