Sindh High Court Dismisses Appeal in Case of Sexual Assault Under False Marriage Promise

KARACHI (HRNW) – The Sindh High Court has dismissed the appeal of Abdullah, who was convicted for obtaining consent from a woman through false promises of marriage. The court upheld the trial court’s original sentence.

Justice Iqbal Kalhoro remarked that consent obtained through fake marriage promises is legally invalid and falls under the category of rape. The court noted that convincing a woman with false marriage promises constitutes mental pressure and deception, and in cases involving unnatural acts, such consent carries no legal weight.

The trial court had earlier sentenced Abdullah to 10 years in prison along with a fine. The case against the accused was registered at Chakiwara Police Station.
