Washington (HRNW)- A senior Pentagon official has stated that the United States has spent approximately $25 billion so far on the ongoing conflict with Iran, according to media reports. This marks the first official estimate of US military expenditure related to the war.
Jules Hurst, acting comptroller, informed members of the House Armed Services Committee that the majority of the funds were used for weapons production and military operations. However, he did not provide detailed breakdowns of the costs or clarify whether the estimate includes future expenses such as reconstruction and repair of infrastructure damaged during conflicts in the Middle East.
During the hearing, Democratic lawmaker Adam Smith, a senior member of the committee, acknowledged the statement, saying he was pleased that an estimate was finally provided after repeated requests had gone unanswered for a long time.
