Surgut (HRNW) – Authorities in Russia have detained the suspect accused of assaulting a hijab-wearing girl in the city of Surgut.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 116 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which pertains to “battery” or physical assault.
The victim’s lawyer argues that the incident should not be treated as an ordinary domestic dispute. According to the lawyer, the circumstances surrounding the attack warrant additional legal qualification under provisions related to hooliganism and incitement of hatred or enmity, citing concerns that the assault may have been motivated by bias.
The legal team intends to seek the inclusion of these additional charges to ensure a comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the incident.
