Turkish Intelligence Arrests ISIS-K Media Chief, Renewing Concerns Over Terrorist Presence in Afghanistan

ANKARA / KABUL (HRNW)- Turkish intelligence agencies have reportedly arrested Ahmed Kazanji, described as the media chief of the militant group ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K), in an operation near a border region, according to reports cited by Turkey’s state-run news agency.

According to the report, the arrested suspect is alleged to have played a role in the group’s media operations, propaganda activities, recruitment efforts, and facilitation of militant operations. Authorities also claim that he admitted involvement in training individuals associated with the organization during questioning.

The arrest has once again drawn attention to concerns about the presence and activities of extremist groups operating from Afghan territory. Various countries and international organizations have repeatedly expressed concerns about the activities of ISIS-K and other militant organizations in the region.

Pakistan has consistently raised the issue of militant groups operating from Afghanistan at the United Nations and other international forums. Pakistani officials have urged the international community to address security threats posed by terrorist organizations active in the region.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has previously stated that several extremist organizations, including ISIS-K and Al-Qaeda, continue to pose security challenges in and beyond Afghanistan.

The Taliban authorities have previously maintained that they are committed to preventing Afghan territory from being used to threaten other countries and have stated that they are taking measures against militant groups. However, concerns regarding regional security continue to be debated internationally.
