Historic Counter-Terrorism Breakthrough: CTD Sindh and Federal Intelligence Agency Dismantle TTP’s Drone Technology Supply Chain

Karachi (HRNW): In an unprecedented, highly sophisticated joint intelligence operation, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh, alongside a federal civil intelligence agency, has achieved a historic milestone in the country’s counter-terrorism history. For the first time, law enforcement agencies have successfully intercepted and dismantled a critical supply chain network responsible for provisioning advanced drone technology, specialized electronics, and explosive components to the proscribed terrorist outfit, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Profile of the Apprehended Operative

The joint tactical teams apprehended a key logistical operative, identified as Tahir. Investigative data reveals deep-rooted familial and operational links to transnational terror networks:

  • The Afghanistan Connection: Tahir’s brother, Talal (alias Zaid Baloch), is an active combatant of the TTP currently operating from safe havens in Afghanistan. Talal’s notoriety is underscored by his formal inclusion in the CTD Sindh Red Book—a registry of high-value wanted terrorists.

  • The Logistical Mandate: Acting under the direct command of his brother Talal from Afghanistan, Tahir was designated as the primary procurement agent in Pakistan. His cell was responsible for sourcing, testing, and smuggling dual-use electronics, advanced drone platforms, communication modules, and automated circuitry back to TTP strongholds.

Modus Operandi: Exploiting Commercial Markets & E-Commerce

Tahir’s systematic procurement process involved exploiting both traditional commercial centers and digital e-commerce channels in Karachi. Under instructions from his handlers, he procured:

  • Drone Armaments & Flight Components: High-end unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including DJI Mini 2 Air platforms, alongside drone motors, structural frames, heavy-duty propellers, and lithium batteries.

  • IED & Suicide Vest Circuitry: Specialized Mangrove controller boards, nuts, bolts, clips, heat-shrink insulation wires, inverter circuits, and high-capacity mobile phone batteries engineered to trigger Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

  • Communication Hardware: Advanced communication devices, including Google Pixel 3 and OnePlus smartphones, to secure encrypted communications.

  • Sourcing Footprint: These tactical materials were systematically accumulated from major commercial hubs in Karachi—including Saddar, Bolton Market, and Ranchore Line—as well as leading digital online portals such as Daraz and allrc.pk.

Forensic Confessions and Direct Terror Linkages

During initial forensic interrogations, the suspect made detailed confessions backed by technical evidence. The seized apparatus was explicitly mapped out for integration into high-tech offensive operations, including:

  1. Automated IED detonators and triggers.

  2. Electrical stabilization networks for suicide bombing vests.

  3. The modification of commercial drones into weaponized quadcopters engineered to execute remote drone strikes against state installations.

Seized Tactical Inventory & Arms Recovery

Law enforcement units secured a significant cache of weaponry and dual-use technology directly from the suspect’s immediate possession:

  • Explosive Materiel: 02 Kilograms of high-grade military explosive material.

  • Unmanned Systems: 01 Tactical Drone complete with its power battery pack.

  • Guidance Systems: 01 Remote Control navigation unit.

High-Level Investigation and Public Safety Advisory

A specialized joint investigation team (JIT) comprising CTD and federal intelligence specialists has been officially constituted. The team is currently leveraging the suspect’s real-time disclosures to launch secondary raids across the province aimed at crushing the remaining sleeper cells and financial facilitators of this network. A formal criminal case has been registered under anti-terrorism statutes.

Official CTD Sindh Public Appeal

In light of this emerging technological threat, the Spokesperson for CTD Sindh has issued an urgent security advisory to the general public, market unions, and online vendors. Citizens are requested to immediately report any suspicious activities, atypical transactions, or bulk purchases of specialized electronics and drone hardware by unauthorized individuals.
