Tragic Shooting in Chakwal: 9-Year-Old Girl Killed, 2 Overseas Pakistani Family Members Wounded by CCD Fire

Chakwal (HRNW): In a devastating operational failure, a 9-year-old girl was shot dead, and two overseas Pakistani family members recently returned from Australia were critically wounded, after Counter-Terrorism/Crime Control Department (CCD) personnel allegedly opened fire on their civilian vehicle during a high-speed pursuit of dacoits.

Armed Robbery Met with Fatal Mistaken Identity

The victims have been identified as Adil Ahmed and his children, who had recently arrived in Pakistan from Australia to visit relatives. According to operational reports, the family had just pulled over outside a relative’s residence in Chakwal when two armed dacoits intercepted and robbed them at gunpoint.

During the robbery, CCD personnel patrolling the vicinity spotted the criminals, triggering a sudden exchange of fire. Terrified by the active crossfire, Adil Ahmed sped away in his vehicle to protect his family. However, the chasing CCD personnel allegedly mistook the family’s car for the escaping dacoits’ vehicle and opened direct fire on it.

Casualties and Immediate Accountability Measures

The indiscriminate firing resulted in catastrophic casualties inside the vehicle:

  • Hania Ahmed (9 years old): Tragically sustained fatal bullet wounds and succumbed to her injuries on the spot.

  • Adil Ahmed (Father): Sustained severe, critical bullet injuries.

  • Affan Ahmed (Brother): Seriously wounded during the volley of gunfire.

Both surviving victims were rushed to a nearby trauma facility in critical condition. Following public outrage and the gravity of the institutional error, top regional police authorities took immediate action. One involved CCD official has been suspended from service with immediate effect, and a high-level Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has been formally constituted to probe the structural flaws and criminal negligence behind the operation. Senior administrative authorities have assured the grieving family that absolute legal action will be initiated against the responsible personnel.
