Kumamoto (HRNW)- Medical staff in Japan continued operating on four patients despite a 6.8-magnitude earthquake that caused severe shaking inside an operating theater, demonstrating remarkable courage and dedication to patient safety.
According to a global news agency, footage from the July 28 earthquake in Japan has gained widespread attention on social media, highlighting the bravery and professionalism of medical workers during the emergency.
The incident occurred in Kumamoto, on the southern island of Kyushu, where the hospital building began shaking violently as the earthquake struck. Equipment inside the operating theater and the patient’s bed were also shaken by the powerful tremors.
Instead of abandoning the unconscious patient, medical staff immediately surrounded the operating table, held the bed firmly and used their bodies to protect the patient while attempting to prevent medical equipment from falling.
The operating theater continued to shake for several seconds. Footage shows doctors performing surgery and other medical workers working together to keep the patient safe despite the sudden and powerful earthquake.
According to reports, one doctor attempted to secure an emergency exit while other staff members remained around the patient and provided protection throughout the strongest tremors.
All Four Operations Completed
According to the hospital administration, four surgeries were underway when the earthquake struck. Despite the intense shaking and chaos inside the operating theater, medical staff successfully completed all four procedures.
Footage from the operating theater shows that doctors and other medical workers were themselves exposed to danger from the earthquake. Nevertheless, they prioritized the safety of the patients and continued providing medical care until the surgeries were completed.
The incident has been praised as a powerful example of the courage, professionalism and commitment of medical workers who continued their duties under extremely dangerous conditions.
