Washington (HRNW)- The United States has indicated that it could lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports if Tehran and Oman reach an agreement to restore safe and unrestricted commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to media reports, Iran and Oman are close to reaching an understanding on reopening the strategically important waterway. US officials said that if an agreement is finalized and Iran begins implementing its commitments, Washington would move toward lifting the blockade.
Significant progress has reportedly been made in discussions between Iran and Oman aimed at restoring the unhindered movement of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to US officials, any decision by Washington to lift the blockade would be conditional and phased, with the United States monitoring Iran’s implementation of the commitments made under the agreement.
US officials said the measures would be adjusted according to Iran’s compliance and progress in implementing the proposed arrangements.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has said that negotiations aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz are progressing well and that an agreement could be reached soon.
The development comes amid heightened regional tensions and concerns over the impact of restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for global energy and commercial shipping.
