Karachi (HRNW): Executing a targeted crackdown against the manufacturing and distribution of hazardous contraband, the Steel Town police structured an intelligence-based raid to apprehend two active suppliers and confiscate a large cache of raw and finished materials.
The operation was executed under the direct supervision of SHO Steel Town, Inspector Gulzar Ahmed Tanoli, whose patrolling unit received a vetted intelligence tip-off regarding illicit distribution networks in the area. Acting swiftly on the lead, the police team intercepted and arrested two suspects, identified as Muhammad Arshad, son of Abbas Ali, and Imran, son of Muhammad Amin Kalmati.
According to police authorities, the apprehended individuals operated an illicit processing cell where they manufactured health-hazardous Gutka Mawa to supply retail networks across inner Karachi. During the raid, law enforcement personnel recovered 60 kilograms of prohibited betel nuts (chalia) along with 10 kilograms of freshly prepared, highly hazardous Gutka Mawa, bringing the total seizure to 70 kilograms of contraband.
The Steel Town police have registered a formal case against the suspects under the relevant sections of the Sindh Prohibition of Preparation, Manufacturing, Storage, Sale, and Use of Gutka and Mawa Act. Investigators are currently screening the criminal records of the accused to check for past offenses and syndications, and the individuals have been handed over to the investigation wing for rigorous interrogation and downstream prosecution.
