Tehran (HRNW) – Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Ebrahim Azizi, has said that Iran does not trust the United States and warned that if Washington’s current approach continues, it will be difficult for peace negotiations between the two countries to succeed.
In an interview with an American broadcaster, Azizi said that Iran does not believe the US administration is demonstrating sufficient seriousness and sincerity in the ongoing diplomatic process. He stated that while Iran views negotiations as part of a broader political and diplomatic engagement, it has no objection to talks if the United States adopts a genuinely constructive approach.
Azizi emphasized that Iran remains committed to international regulations and the principles of diplomacy. However, he noted that Tehran has yet to see a practical framework capable of leading to a final agreement. He cited the issue of Iran’s frozen assets as a major source of distrust and said the lack of progress on this matter is negatively affecting the negotiation process.
He further clarified that discussions regarding uranium enrichment and Iran’s nuclear program are not currently part of the negotiation agenda. According to him, the future of any possible agreement depends entirely on the practical behavior of the United States.
The Iranian official added that negotiations could advance if Iran’s agreed conditions are met, national interests are protected, economic issues are addressed, and meaningful progress is made on regional matters, including Lebanon. He reiterated that Iran will continue to support its regional allies and will not compromise on issues it considers central to its foreign policy.
