Lahore (HRNW)- The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has said that water flow in most of Punjab’s rivers remains at normal levels, while warning of urban flooding and landslide risks as the fourth spell of monsoon rains continues across the province.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, water flow in the Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej rivers is normal, while rivers in Dera Ghazi Khan are also flowing within normal limits.
The authority said there is a low-level flood in the Indus River at Kalabagh and Chashma, where water flow has been recorded at 272,000 cusecs and 273,000 cusecs, respectively.
According to the PDMA, Pulkho Drain at Wazirabad is experiencing a moderate flood with a water flow of 3,400 cusecs, while a low-level flood has also been reported in the Basantar Drain in Narowal.
The PDMA said the fourth spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until August 5, with rainfall in the upper catchment areas likely to increase water flow in the eastern rivers and adjoining streams.
PDMA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa warned of possible urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan, while Murree, Galiyat and other mountainous areas face the risk of landslides.
He directed residents living in riverbeds to move immediately to safer locations and said the Punjab government has established flood relief camps in affected areas where essential facilities and medicines will be provided.
The PDMA also urged citizens to take precautionary measures, avoid recreational activities near rivers, canals and streams, and ensure that children are not allowed to bathe in these water bodies.
