Karachi (HRNW): Public transport services across Karachi were largely suspended as transporters observed a strike against heavy traffic fines and other grievances, leaving thousands of commuters facing significant travel difficulties.
Buses remained parked at various terminals across the city, forcing office workers, laborers, students, and other commuters to walk long distances or seek alternative means of transportation to reach their destinations.
According to the Karachi Transport Ittehad (Transport Alliance), the strike was called in protest against heavy traffic challans, the e-challan system, non-payment of government subsidies, the disappearance of files from the Excise Department’s record room, alleged extortion, the refusal to allow increases in transport fares, police action against public transport vehicles, and what transporters described as the administration’s failure to address their demands.
Transport representatives urged the relevant authorities to resolve these issues through dialogue, while commuters appealed for an early settlement to restore normal public transport services.
