Karachi (HRNW): Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi acting chief and Opposition Leader in KMC, Advocate Saifuddin, held a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq along with the families of victims of the Baldia factory fire case, raising concerns over the acquittal of accused persons and related developments.
The press conference was also attended by Public Aid Committee Secretary Najeeb Ayubi, Information Secretary Zahid Askari, Muhammad Sabir, and others.
Saifuddin Advocate stated that although a court verdict has been announced in the Baldia factory fire case, justice has not been fully delivered to the families of the 259 victims. He added that detailed judgments in such major cases should be issued promptly.
The families said they do not seek punishment for any innocent person, but insisted that the real perpetrators must be identified and held accountable. They also raised concerns over the rejection of their plea to become party in the case, calling the reasoning unacceptable.
They demanded a fresh investigation into the incident to determine the actual cause of the fire and alleged underlying factors, including reported extortion-related aspects.
The families further urged the federal and provincial governments to ensure distribution of $5.15 million provided by a German company among the victims, and also questioned the utilization of previously disbursed compensation funds.
They also called for transparency regarding post-incident developments and alleged restrictions imposed on access to victims after the tragedy.
