NADRA Introduces Feature Giving Users Full Control Over Biometric Data

Islamabad (HRNW)- NADRA has given complete control of biometric data to users, under ‘Block Biometric Data Access’, verification will not be possible without the user’s permission.

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new feature in the Pak ID mobile app, through which users will be able to control access to their biometric data themselves.

According to a NADRA spokesperson, after activating the ‘Block Biometric Data Access’ feature, biometric verification will not be possible at any institution or location through users’ fingerprints or faces, unless the user himself gives permission for it by going to the mobile app.

NADRA officials say that the aim of this move is to further secure the sensitive biometric data of users and give its authority completely to the user.

To enable the new feature, users will have to log in to the PakID mobile app, after which they will have to go to the menu above and select “Block Biometric Data Access” from “Profile Settings”.

According to the spokesperson, in some mobile phones, authentication through fingerprints or a photo may also be requested to enable this feature.

The NADRA spokesperson said that whenever biometric authentication is required at a place, the user can temporarily disable this feature and allow it, while after the verification is complete, it can be re-enabled so that the biometric information is safe.

The NADRA spokesperson says that this new system will give users more control over their identity information and prevent unnecessary use of biometric data.
