Primorsk (HRNW)- Ukraine has reportedly targeted key Russian oil infrastructure in a recent strike that hit an important loading port and affected vessels operating in the Baltic Sea, intensifying pressure on Russia’s energy sector amid the ongoing conflict. According to media reports, Ukraine has accused certain ports of being used to facilitate the transport of Russian crude oil and has increasingly focused attacks on strategic energy facilities.
According to Leningrad region Governor Alexander Drozdenko, a Ukrainian drone strike caused a fire at Primorsk, Russia’s largest oil export port on the Baltic Sea. The facility, operated by Russia’s state-owned pipeline company Transneft, is a major export terminal capable of handling hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil per day. Primorsk is located approximately 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from Ukraine, near the Russian-Finnish border and not far from St. Petersburg, Russia’s second-largest city. Officials stated that while the attack reportedly did not result in any oil spill, there was no immediate information regarding casualties or the extent of material damage caused by the strike.
