Khairpur (HRNW): The discovery of high-quality lithium reserves in Khairpur, Sindh, has raised hopes for the establishment of a local lithium industry in Pakistan.
In this regard, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH) have signed an agreement to develop advanced technology for the commercial extraction of lithium.
Under the agreement, modern techniques will be developed to extract high-quality lithium on a commercial scale from geothermal brine water obtained from a well located in Khairpur district of Sindh.
Officials stated that the initiative aims to establish a scientific and industrial foundation for local lithium production, which could help Pakistan reduce dependence on imported lithium and utilize its own mineral resources in the future.
Lithium is a key raw material used in modern technologies, particularly in electric vehicle batteries, energy storage systems, and various industrial applications.
