Karachi (HRNW): The Constitutional Bench of the Sindh High Court expressed concern over the failure to register cases regarding missing persons and directed police authorities to take immediate action during the hearing of petitions seeking the recovery of missing individuals.
During the hearing, Justice Saleem Jassar remarked that the court had already ordered that cases regarding the disappearance of missing citizens be registered, questioning why the police had not yet complied with the directives.
The court instructed the investigation officer of Super Market Police Station to record statements of the families of missing persons and register the cases on the same day. The court also sought a report from the investigation officer on the matter.
The government lawyer informed the court that police had contacted the family of a missing citizen, but they were unable to visit the police station due to illness. The court questioned the explanation and remarked, “Are you more educated, or are you not telling the truth?”
The court directed authorities to ensure compliance with judicial orders and submit a detailed report. It ordered registration of cases regarding the disappearance of citizens Asad Ali and Faraz Ali, and sought a report by August 6.
During the proceedings, a police report stated that missing citizens Adnan, Rizwan, and Fahad had returned safely to their homes. According to the report, the three individuals had gone missing from the jurisdiction of Gulistan-e-Johar Police Station.
Following confirmation of their safe return, the court disposed of the recovery petitions related to the three citizens.
