Lower Dir (HRNW)- Two tragic drowning incidents occurred in the Panjkora River, where a 15-year-old girl lost her life in the strong currents, while a Suzuki driver who attempted to rescue her also drowned.
According to Rescue 1122, the girl was swept away by the river on Saturday night. Initial reports said that a woman also entered the river while trying to save the girl, but a Suzuki driver bravely managed to rescue the woman and bring her to safety.
Rescue officials said that after successfully saving the woman, the driver attempted to rescue the girl as well. However, he was overcome by the river’s strong currents and was swept away, resulting in his drowning.
Following the incident, Rescue 1122 water rescue teams from Lower Dir and Upper Dir reached the scene and launched a search and rescue operation. The search for the two missing persons resumed on Sunday morning.
Rescue 1122 has urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall, stay away from rivers, streams and flood channels, and immediately contact the Rescue 1122 helpline in case of any emergency.
