CPPA Seeks 82 Paisa Per Unit Electricity Price Increase, NEPRA Hearing on June 30

Islamabad (HRNW)- Electricity consumers across Pakistan may face higher power bills as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has formally requested an increase of 82 paisa per unit in electricity tariffs under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism.

According to reports, the CPPA has submitted its request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for an increase in electricity rates applicable nationwide. The request pertains to the monthly fuel cost adjustment for May.

NEPRA is scheduled to hold a public hearing on June 30 to review the proposal. Following a technical evaluation of the data and submissions, the regulator will decide whether to approve, reject, or modify the requested increase.

In its submission, CPPA stated that the average fuel cost for electricity generation during May stood at Rs 9.25 per unit. Based on this calculation, the agency has sought an upward adjustment of 82 paisa per unit.

If approved by NEPRA, the increase is expected to place an additional financial burden of approximately Rs 12 billion on electricity consumers across the country.

The final impact on consumers will depend on NEPRA’s determination following the hearing and review process.
