Wuhan (HRNW)- The commissioning ceremony of the first Hangor-class submarine for the Pakistan Navy was held in China, with President Asif Ali Zardari attending as the chief guest at the historic event. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, NI, NI(M), TBT, was also present at the ceremony, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan’s naval modernization efforts.
President Zardari described the commissioning of the Hangor-class submarine as a historic achievement that reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining a strong, balanced, and reliable defense posture. He emphasized that Pakistan remains fully capable of defending its sovereignty, safeguarding its maritime interests, and ensuring the security of its economic lifelines.
Speaking on the occasion, Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf highlighted growing threats to global trade and energy security due to disruptions at key maritime choke points, stressing the importance of technologically advanced naval forces in preserving a stable, rules-based maritime order. He noted that the Hangor-class submarines, equipped with state-of-the-art weapons systems, advanced sensors, and air-independent propulsion technology, will play a vital role in deterring aggression, maintaining maritime stability, and securing vital Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs) across the Arabian Sea and the wider Indian Ocean region.
