Karachi (HRNW): Chairman of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has said that provinces are administrative units and new provinces should be created on an administrative basis wherever needed.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that MQM-P has decided to celebrate the month of independence with all its traditions and details this year. He said that a gathering of Pakistan’s business community was recently held in Islamabad, where their longstanding viewpoint that provinces are only administrative units was supported.
He stated that Pakistan is the motherland of all citizens and that all four provinces are integral parts of Pakistan. He said that the country is not divisible, while provinces exist as administrative units for better governance and public facilitation.
Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said Pakistan’s four provinces represent linguistic identities, but emphasized that provinces should be formed on administrative grounds wherever required.
He said Pakistan does not need a democracy whose benefits do not reach ordinary citizens. According to him, a democracy without empowered grassroots-level governments remains incomplete.
The MQM-P leader said that even those responsible for protecting Pakistan’s borders are now acknowledging certain realities. He described corruption as a force damaging the country’s economy and society and said that those who turned Pakistan into a marketplace must be held accountable.
He stressed that without empowered third-tier local governments, democracy remains weak. He added that considering the division of administrative units as treason reflects a different mindset.
Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui invited the people of Sindh to participate in Independence Month celebrations and said that current circumstances require greater national unity. He announced that a national poetry gathering would also be organized during the month.
He said MQM-P representatives have started Independence Month activities by paying tribute at Mazar-e-Quaid, while flag-hoisting ceremonies will be held across all union councils and towns.
He further stated that MQM-P does not need the government or assemblies; rather, he claimed that the assemblies need public representatives.
