ISLAMABAD (HRNW): Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, while responding to media queries regarding Pakistani citizens detained in Cambodia, stated that the Pakistan Embassy in Cambodia has taken up the matter seriously and maintained constant contact with local authorities.
Following the directives of the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, all possible measures are being taken for the welfare and protection of Pakistanis abroad. As a result of these diplomatic efforts, Cambodian authorities have agreed to repatriate 54 Pakistani citizens who were detained in Siem Reap province.
These citizens were taken into custody during a raid on a scam compound. The spokesperson noted that embassy staff are currently looking after the welfare of the detainees, and they will be sent back to Pakistan as soon as flight arrangements are finalized.
In a gesture of goodwill, Cambodian authorities have decided not to pursue legal action against these individuals under the “Law on the Suppression of Online Scams,” which carries severe penalties and heavy fines.
